Professional Experience

John M. “Mike” McCown brings more than 20 years of experience in residential mortgage lending, financial analysis, business development, and executive leadership.

Throughout his career, Mike has held management and leadership positions within the mortgage industry, overseeing business operations, developing professional relationships, mentoring industry professionals, and helping borrowers navigate complex financing decisions.

His professional approach emphasizes practical problem-solving, accountability, and the ability to identify solutions where conventional approaches may fall short.

As a Certified Divorce Lending Professional (CDLP), credentialed family-law mediator, and member of the Tarrant County Family Law Bar Association, Mike combines mortgage expertise with an understanding of the financial, procedural, and practical challenges surrounding divorce.

Education & Leadership

Mike's professional background extends beyond mortgage lending into education, curriculum delivery, and regulatory compliance.

Earlier in his career, he spent five years delivering state-regulated, in-person educational programs, conducting approximately six classes per week. His instructional work underwent two State of Texas regulatory audits, both completed successfully.

That experience helped shape his ability to communicate complex information clearly, engage diverse audiences, and translate technical requirements into practical decisions.

Today, Mike applies those same instructional principles to educating attorneys and other professionals about divorce-related housing feasibility, mortgage qualification, equity considerations, and the importance of evaluating financing options before settlement terms are finalized.

Why Divorce Housing Blueprint Was Founded

Through years of working with borrowers and professionals navigating divorce, Mike recognized a recurring problem: housing provisions were sometimes negotiated and incorporated into divorce settlements before anyone had established whether those provisions were financially feasible or operationally executable.

A decree might require one spouse to refinance, remove the other spouse from the mortgage, or complete an equity buyout within a specified period. Yet the ability to accomplish those requirements could depend on lending guidelines, credit obligations, property valuation, title conditions, available equity, and the timing of support income.

When these questions remain unanswered until after the decree, even well-intentioned agreements can create additional financial hardship, delays, and conflict.

Mike founded Divorce Housing Blueprint to help address that gap.

DHB brings together coordinated title findings, independent real estate valuations, limited mortgage feasibility conclusions when applicable, and structured reporting designed to help family-law attorneys evaluate housing options before settlement obligations are finalized.

The objective is not to influence which spouse receives the home or advocate for one party over another. It is to give attorneys better information about what can realistically be accomplished.

A Principle Behind the Process

“Don't advocate for a side. Advocate for a feasible outcome.”

That principle guides Mike's approach to professional collaboration, housing feasibility analysis, and the development of Divorce Housing Blueprint.

People First. Always.
